For more than 20 years, Andy Hoover has been dedicated to equity, justice, and human rights for the people of Pennsylvania. Starting his career as a volunteer activist in the anti-death penalty movement in 2000, Andy quickly established himself as a voice for compassion and for people who are mistreated and marginalized.
His ability to communicate effectively and reach priority audiences eventually led Andy to join the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania. He joined the ACLU of Pa. as a community organizer in 2004, served as legislative director from 2008-2017, and then led ACLU-PA's communications department from 2017-2025.
Andy has received numerous honors for his work, including the Alumni Achievement Award from Penn State Harrisburg, the “Celebrating woMEN!” award from the Women and Girls Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania, and the Compassion In Action award from Blue Mountain Lotus Society.
Andy is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, where he earned a master of arts degree in community psychology and social change, and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor of arts in communications.
