As legislation to implement vote-by-mail in Pennsylvania advanced toward the governor's desk in 2019, it faced one last hurdle - vocal opposition from the Democrats' progressive wing due to the elimination of straight-party voting. In this op-ed that Andy penned, ACLU-PA added its voice in favor of the bill, which ultimately passed.
During the 2024 general election, thousands of Pennsylvanians who live overseas had their votes challenged in a nefarious effort by election deniers to have their ballots disqualified. Andy worked with a reporter from the BBC to identify impacted voters and continued working with the reporter for a week as the facts on the ground continued to change.
After Larry Krasner won the 2021 Democratic primary for district attorney in Philadelphia, virtually assuring his reelection, ACLU-PA's advocacy strategy demanded that the organization both recognize his accomplishments in changing the criminal legal system while not letting him off the hook for his mistakes. In this blog post drafted by Andy, the organization explained the successes of Krasner's first term and what work remained to be done.
In the summer of 2024, the Pa. House of Representatives considered legislation to require insurance companies to cover contraception at no cost to the consumer. To ensure the bill's passage, ACLU-PA sent this email, drafted by Andy, to its email listserv to urge supporters to contact their state representative. The bill passed the House.
